The Dimmer System v3 is the successor to our previous dimmer systems and builds upon them. The components are compatible with the previous systems.

The system uses a PWM dimmer and is designed for use in entire cockpits equipped with incandescent bulbs. Of course, LEDs can also be dimmed using the system. The basic components are the base module and the driver module. The base module commands the brightness, while the driver modules are used to control the lamps. Multiple driver modules can be connected to a single base module to allow for the simultaneous dimming of different types of lamps (voltage and sink/source type) or to dim higher currents.

The base module and the drivers are connected to each other using a 6-pin ribbon cable (1.27/2.54 mm pitch). This cable carries the dimming signal and is used to control the drivers.

In the source type configuration, the negative terminal of the lamps is permanently connected to ground. The transistor on the circuit board is connected to the positive power supply and switches the power to the positive terminal of the lamps to complete the circuit.
The type you need depends on the application. If the lamps are completely isolated, the type doesn’t matter. However, if, for example, one side of your lamps is connected to the aircraft structure (ground), you’ll need the source type, which specifically supports this fixed connection of the negative side to ground.

This board makes it possible to connect original annunciators (e.g. light bulbs) to the flight simulator via LAN. Plug and play with JeeHell, ProSim (A320 and 737) and X-Plane. The special feature of the circuit board is that 210 mA is guaranteed for each of the 64 outputs. Even at full load (all outputs active), the voltage hardly drops, so that a light test is also possible. Comparable products advertise 500 mA per output. However, the outdated chips never manage to drive even 210 mA without a significant voltage drop. The result is often that the lamps barely light up when all outputs are active. This circuit board was specially developed for controlling original 210 mA annunciators and uses modern chips as drivers.

The board has 64 source-type outputs. Connect the supply voltage (e.g. 5 V or 28 V) to the VCC connection on the circuit board (max. 50 V). One pin of the light bulb is connected to the circuit board. The second connection is connected to ground. The circuit board switches against the supply voltage. The drivers have protective diodes so that inductive loads can also be switched.

Up to 210 mA per output (14 A total load)

An external 5 volt power supply is required.

Multiple driver modules can be connected to a single base module to allow for the simultaneous dimming of different types of lamps (voltage and sink/source type) or to dim higher currents.

The brightness can be adjusted using a potentiometer (100 ohms to 1 megohm), which is not included.
The board has an input that can be used to turn off the dimmer. In this case, the connected lamps are turned off. To do this, ground must be applied to the input.
The dimmer requires its own stable 5 V power supply, which must not be subjected to a high PWM load.

Potentiometer not included in the delivery contents.

An external 5 volt power supply is required.

At least one driver module is required for dimming.
